Geelong’s waterfront is sparkling thanks to a significant clean-up effort from a KPMG corporate volunteer day on Wednesday 21 May during National Volunteer Week.

In partnership with the City as part of the Clean Up Australia program 260 KPMG volunteers from their Geelong and Melbourne offices and executives from around Australia participated in a large-scale beach clean-up at Limeburner’s Boat Harbour Eastern Beach Rippleside Beach St Helens Beach and Moorpanyul Beach.

Following the litter collection the group became citizen scientists to conduct a litter audit run by the Bellarine Catchment Network.

The litter audit provided an understanding of the sources of pollution and helped raise awareness of the types and volume of waste being discarded.

The Highton Rotary Club hosted a barbeque lunch at Eastern Gardens to thank the volunteers.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM was in attendance and said the day was a great way to make a positive impact on the environment and showcase Geelong’s world-class waterfront.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

It was wonderful to collaborate with KPMG to make a real impact on cleaning up our coastline.

Every piece of rubbish collected helps to conserve our environment and keep plastic from entering the bay.

I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved in this huge clean-up effort especially those that have travelled from beyond Greater Geelong.

Councillor Elise Wilkinson chair of the Environment and Circular Economy portfolio

This has been a fantastic collaboration during National Volunteer Week and has made a big difference to the health of our coastline.

Thank you to the KPMG team of volunteers for making time to help protect our native wildlife and keep our city clean and beautiful.

KPMG Partner Paul Robson

We’re proud to welcome over 200 Melbourne colleagues to Geelong as part of a broad initiative to keep Australia beautiful.

KPMG’s people have joined together to support our great city - a growing city and an enterprising one where businesses can thrive.

As local partners serving mid-market and family enterprises Claire Richards Luke Snowdon and I are delighted to have been able to host this event alongside our KPMG Enterprise national managing partner Naomi Mitchell.

We’d also like to thank the City of Greater Geelong for their fantastic support as we give back to the community we love.

Clean Up Australia has been running for 35 years and encourages Australians to get out in their community and collect litter to protect our environment and keep Australia clean. For more information or to register visit the Clean Up Australia website.
