Pre-application meetings

Before you submit your application you may find it helpful to have a pre-application meeting with one of our planners.

The purpose of a planning permit pre-application meeting is to give you a chance to discuss your planning permit application with planning officers before you submit it.

During the meeting we'll work with you to identify potential design issues and confirm any additional information we'll need to process your application.

Benefits of pre-application meetings

  • Identify potential design issues early.
  • Ask questions about the process and our expectations.
  • Check your application has all the necessary information.
  • Minimise time required to process your application.

The pre-application meeting process

Before we meet

We'll do a thorough review of your plans and collate our feedback.

On the day

We"ll meet and review your plans recommend proposed changes and discuss any issues that have been identified.

After the meeting

We'll provide you with a copy of the planner’s notes.

What we need before the meeting

When you request a pre-application meeting you'll also be asked to submit a site plan as well as detailed sketches to show us what you're proposing. The bigger the development or subdivision the more information we'll need to help us fully assess your application.

Payment must be received before we can schedule your meeting. Once booked, a minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to allow planners time to review your proposal - meetings cannot be arranged immediately.

More about what you will need for your pre-application meeting is in the forms below.

Common Questions

All information and correspondence submitted, including plans, drawings, photos, emails and so on, as well as meeting notes and written feedback, will be stored in our Records Document Management System, in line with our privacy policy.

The applicant for the meeting will receive a copy of the meeting notes within a week after the meeting has been held.

While we’ll do our best to give you clear and helpful advice designed to help you with your application, following it will not guarantee the planning permit will be approved.

The advice we give may be impacted by consequential changes to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme, the design, further information received, referral advice, site inspection, the public notice process and other changes of circumstance.
