Hand Wash Basins in Beauty Businesses
A hand basin with hot and cold running water supplied through a single outlet with appropriate splash backs should be installed in the procedure room/cubicle. If this is not achievable, it must be located where it is easily accessible for use by all staff.
The basin must also be supplied with soap and single use paper towels. Hand towels are not acceptable as they have the potential to grow and spread bacteria once used and reused.
Where skin penetration procedures are performed (tattooing, piercing, microblading) the hand basin to be hands free but please note elbow operated taps are not desirable.
In establishments where only hairdressing takes place, a hair washing basin with hot and cold running water supplied through a single outlet can also be used for washing hands, provided this is sufficient for the number of staff.

If you are a registered beauty business and looking to rent out some space, either an area or a chair in your shop, the person renting the space would require registration under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act.
If you are registered at your home, you are able to do this as long as there are no more than two people working there that don’t live in the house. The hairdresser/beauty therapist would require registration with us under the Act.
