Parking meters and payments

Parking signs indicate the allowable time limit and if a fee is required.

Geelong parking

Parking meters are used to regulate parking in high demand areas. Parking prices are structured depending on long and short-term parking. Read the parking signs to confirm parking time limits for the area before payment.

Parking meters are all the same type within the Geelong area. For more information on how to use the meters you can download a user guide.

Switch to digital parking in central Geelong

From 9 March 2026, we’re phasing out coin payments at parking meters across central Geelong and shifting to digital only transactions.

Coin payments have fallen to under 5 per cent after seven years of steady decline. Increasing costs of more than $275,000 per year to ratepayers to collect money from meters are also behind the switch.

More than 95 per cent of drivers to central Geelong will be unaffected by the move and will notice no change to how they pay for parking, as they are already using digital methods.

Moving to digital will deliver a more dependable parking system and enable better use of ratepayer money.

Benefits of digital parking in central Geelong:

  • More reliable meters without paper or coin jams
  • More control over your stay through the EasyPark app, ensuring you don’t pay for time you don’t use and allowing drivers to extend their stay
  • Reduced operating costs (parts and labour) from printer and mechanical faults

For more see our Digital parking Frequently Asked Questions.

Payment options

We are providing more choice for motorists to carry out their parking transactions. Payments can be made by:

  • credit card (Visa or Mastercard) - the fee to pay via credit/debit card is 0.25 per cent.
  • pay-by-phone applications

EasyPark (fees apply)

The EasyPark app allows you to extend the parking duration remotely from your phone. You only pay for the time you actually use.

It can be downloaded through the iTunes store or at Google Play.

It offers two pricing models.

  • Subscription ($1.99 per month plus 2.25 per cent commission per transaction) – best for more regular visitors to central Geelong.
  • Casual (parking fee plus 11.5 per cent commission).

It also works across EasyPark's network in all Australian states.

For more information visit the EasyPark website.

Parking meters and fines

You can be fined if you park in a metered space for longer than the permitted maximum time, even if you put more money in the meter.

You will need to move your car once the maximum time limit has expired.
