Lara Recreation Reserve Master Plan
Lara Recreation Reserve provides key facilities and playing surfaces for a number sporting activities as well as opportunities for passive recreation for the local community. The reserve also provides facilities for the local St John's Ambulance brigade and 1st Lara scout group.
With growth in demand for sports and current and anticipated population growth generally a master plan was required to guide future development and activity on the reserve.
Lara Recreation Reserve is located at 2-4 Mill Road Lara. The attached document is the most recent master plan for the reserve completed in 2019.
Vision
The Aim of the Lara Recreation Reserve Master Plan is to consider the aspirations needs and want of local residents user groups and stakeholders to produce a plan that enables greater function participation and activation of the reserve.
Plan objectives
In order to achieve the vision a number of important objectives are considered in the plan.
The key objectives of the plan include:
- identify opportunities to upgrade sports spaces and facilities to provide better conditions for participants and allow greater flexibility and use for the whole community.
- improve pedestrian access and circulation at the reserve including a walking/jogging trail around the reserve an upgraded pedestrian link across Alkara Avenue to the reserve perimeter and a new pedestrian plaza connection between oval 1 and oval 2.
- improve vehicle access and formalise existing informal parking areas to make more efficient use of the available spaces.
- enhance passive recreation opportunities through providing; open grassed kick about spaces new playground and picnic facilities new seating around the reserve particularly along new walking/jogging trail.
- enhance landscape features with new informal tree planting for shade shelter and habitat associated with all open grassed areas as well as ensuring protection of all heritage listed and other significant trees.
