Avalon Beach lies on the north side of Corio Bay and faces due south. The foreshore reserve and shacks are flanked by former salt pans and areas of significant salt marsh vegetation.
A walking track to Point Lillias is accessible at the northern end of the road. Tidal sand flats extending out into the bay are exposed at low tide.
