Britannia St & Clonard Ave Geelong West - TAC Grant Funding Road Safety Upgrades

Raised Wombat Crossings on Britannia St & Clonard Ave

City of Greater Geelong has secured funding through the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) Local Government Grant Program to deliver road safety upgrades on Britannia Street and Clonard Avenue.

The TAC Local Government Grant Program supports projects that improve road safety outcomes and create safer environments for vulnerable road users. This project will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists travelling to and from the nearby school and surrounding neighbourhood.

The project is jointly funded by the TAC and the City of Greater Geelong and will include:

  • Raised wombat crossings on Britannia Street and Clonard Avenue
  • Street lighting upgrades
  • Line marking and signage upgrades

The raised wombat crossings will improve pedestrian safety, enhance visibility at crossing locations and increase driver awareness within the school precinct.

Works are expected to commence in January 2027. This page will be updated once construction dates have been confirmed.

The works will be delivered by our internal Construction Unit and are expected to take approximately 4 weeks, weather permitting.

Emergency services access will be maintained at all times.

Traffic management and detour signage will be in place to assist motorists, cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the area during construction.

Your rubbish collection will not be impacted. Please place your bin out as usual and, if required, staff will move your bin for collection. We will return your bin once it has been emptied. To avoid confusion, please ensure your property number is clearly marked on your bin.

Thank you for your patience while we undertake these important road safety improvements.
