Roadworks and temporary closures

Notifications

In accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act we will advise of construction works requiring a full temporary road closure by:

letters to local impacted residents
notification to emergency services and/or
social or other media platforms as deemed necessary.

Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

All appropriate signage will be in place and the traffic controllers on site will provide every assistance to minimise any inconvenience.

Here are some of the major temporary road project and closures across our municipality managed by the City.
This does not include Transport Victoria, Powercor, Barwon Water or other non-local government projects.

Road closure and event details

Cloverdale Drive, Corio Purnell Road to Kingsley Drive

These works form part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving local infrastructure. The existing road surface has deteriorated over time due to age, weather conditions and the current width of the road can no longer accommodate rising traffic volumes.

Beach Rd, Avalon - Volpini Court to Pousties Road

The City has listened to community concerns regarding deterioration to Beach Road, Avalon. We wish to inform you that we will be undertaking road reconstruction and widening works between Volpini Court and Pousties Road from late October 2026 to late December 2026.

Boat ramp and beach access road closed between 1-4 September for asphalting works in the carpark.

Kilgour St & Garden St, Geelong - Blackspot Funding road safety upgrades

City of Greater Geelong has received Black Spot funding from The Australian Government to deliver road safety upgrades.

We have developed a travel plan to manage traffic and keep pedestrians safe in the Armstrong Creek school precinct.
