Geelong Nature Week features a full program of free and low‑cost activities designed to get people outdoors, learning and exploring.

Across ten days, residents can join guided walks, talks, safaris and hands‑on workshops led by local experts and community groups. 

From spotting platypus at dawn to discovering rare wildflowers, each event offers a chance to slow down, look closely and appreciate the natural places that make Geelong special.

Program highlights

• Geelong Waterfront Safari – 10 am, Saturday 10 October  
  Discover the hidden ecosystem within one of Geelong’s most visited destinations.
• Designing With Nature – 2 pm, Saturday 10 October 
  Short talks exploring how cities, homes and gardens can work in harmony with nature.
• Barwon Platypus Hunt – 8 am, Monday 12 October  
  An early‑morning walk along the Barwon River in search of our elusive platypus.
• Native Grassland Bus Tour – 11:30 am, Wednesday 14 October  
  Visit three precious native grassland sites and learn about endangered species.
• Balyang Sanctuary Bird Hunt – 5:30 pm, Tuesday 20 October  
  Join the Geelong Field Naturalists Club for a bird‑spotting adventure.
• Nature’s Halloween Craft Party – 10 am, Saturday 24 October  
  Kids create wildlife‑friendly Halloween decorations.
• Gardens for Wildlife Workshop – 10 am, Saturday 24 October  
  A practical workshop on designing gardens that support local wildlife.

Places are limited, so community members should book early.

These activities help us learn more about our local environment while having fun with family and friends.
