Making school holidays fun and easy for families this winter

Monday, 15th June 2026

The weather might be cooling down, but Central Geelong is heating up with a jam-packed calendar of events and activities these school holidays.

The Geelong Botanic Gardens will be lit up during the Winter School Holidays

The City’s Winter School Holiday Fun Guide for Central Geelong and the Waterfront is bursting full of immersive activities and exciting and educational experiences for children aged four to 12 years old.

From an after-dark light show, to creative craft sessions and a taste trail for tiny tastebuds, the guide features a mix of free and low-cost activities for families and caregivers to enjoy.

The City’s convenient guide means parents and caregivers can spend less time searching for activities and more time making memories.

This year, the school holiday guide runs alongside the City’s renowned Tastes of Greater Geelong festival, giving children the opportunity to enjoy food-related activities.

Key activities in our Winter School Holiday Fun Guide include:

  • Eclipse: In Bloom: Get ready to see the Geelong Botanic Gardens transform into an immersive after-dark experience of light, sound and storytelling.
  • Get creative at the Carousel: Make your own spoonvillian or cork creature from recycled materials with Urban Upcycle.
  • The Dome, Geelong Library and Heritage Centre: Offering a range of free crafts and puzzle activities and family movie sessions.
  • On the Move exhibition: Discover interesting facts about vehicles, inventions and the future of transport at the National Wool Museum.
  • The Wrong Book show: Expect colourful characters, music and laugh-out-loud moments at the Geelong Arts Centre.
  • G-Kids Tasting Trail: Sample new flavours, learn fun facts and make new friends through Central Geelong.

The Winter School Holiday Fun Guide gives children a great opportunity to get creative, discover new hobbies, meet new friends, and make lasting memories with their family.

We hope this guide makes the school holidays a little easier for parents and caregivers by showcasing a range of free and affordable activities all in one place.

Deputy Mayor Eddy Kontelj

Even as the weather cools down, Central Geelong and Waterfront will be full of activity, providing families with plenty of reasons to get out and explore.

Make sure to check out the guide, plan your events, and get ready for a winter holiday full of fun.
