Activities for positive ageing

We are proud to promote activities that support 'positive ageing' in Geelong.
People aged 55 years and over make up approximately 30 percent of our region's population. We want to do more to respect and celebrate the diversity of older people who live, work in and visit Greater Geelong while respecting and supporting their individual experiences, preferences and backgrounds.
As part of our Positive Ageing grants program, we have funded a number of activities that deliver opportunities to:
- increase physical activity
- improve mental health and well being
- increase social connection
- recognise and celebrate achievements
- support positive ageing
- provide opportunity for intergenerational activity.
There will be over 40 events held from October 2024 to March 2025 to help us celebrate and connect.
In 2016, we joined 44 other Victorian councils by signing a 'Statement of Support and Partner Endorsement to the World Health Organisation's Age Friendly declaration'.
