Graffiti on private property

Removal of graffiti from private property is the responsibility of the property owner.

We can provide graffiti removal assistance where the damaged surface is accessible without entering private property and is located on:

  • Fences facing public land or road reserves
  • Boundary walls visible from public areas
  • unpainted brick (not sandstone or other highly porous products)
  • unpainted wood
  • exposed concrete
  • untreated metal surfaces.

This assistance is dependent on available budget. These works will be completed by either our contractor or the Department of Justice and Regulation Graffiti Removal Program.

Assistance from the City

The Paint Voucher Program assists private property owners who have graffiti on painted external surfaces.

The paint voucher provides a four - litre tin of colour matched paint a roller paint brush paint tray and drop sheet.

Graffiti Removal Kits are available to assist private property and business owners to remove graffiti from their fences, walls and shopfronts visible to the public.

The kit is specifically formulated to remove texta, felt pen marker, spray can paint graffiti from most surfaces.

Important:

Always test the product on a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning. If any damage to the surface occurs, discontinue use immediately.

Where to collect

Residents can collect a kit from the City's Customer Service Centres at:

  • Wurriki Nyal – Mercer St, Geelong
  • Corio Village Shopping Centre 
  • Drysdale Library. 

Required for collection:

  • Proof of identity and address are required
  • Waiver must be signed at collection.  A waiver form will be available at the Customer Service Centres.

We do not remove graffiti from:
  • graffiti located at height. (Steps or ladder required for access) or above building awning
  • highly porous surfaces such as sandstone and marble
  • windows and shopfronts
  • tiled surfaces
  • rendered surfaces
  • private signage including:
    • business signs both free standing and attached to walls
    • electoral signage
    • real estate signs
    • sponsorship signage.
