These architects won a 1916 competition Johnstone Park to redesign the Park. Princes Boulevard forms its East-West axis; the Hitchcock Memorial Bandstand and Gates and the Peace Memorial form the North-South axis.

The Hitchcock Memorial Bandstand (Everett, 1919) is in a Beaux Arts style. It is a significant early work and ‘one of the finest structures of this type in Victoria’.

The Peace Memorial (Laird and Buchan and Everett, 1926) is ‘a modern adaptation of the Roman Renaissance’ designed to be the foyer to a future hall, never built. It is ‘closely aligned’ with the Bostock Memorial in The Gordon Complex. In 2018, the Park's eastern layout was altered to accommodate a rain garden and underground stormwater storage.
