Geelong Gas Company Building

The company was formed in 1857, and Geelong's first gas street lighting was lit in 1862. The company was absorbed by the Gas and Fuel Corporation in 1900.

One of the many Geelong buildings by Laird and Buchan, the upper storey is generally original; the canopy and shopfronts have been replaced.

Noted for its ornate cement mouldings with the two end bays having 'intricate, prismatic forms at the parapet', it relates to the parapet detailing of 155 Ryrie St.
