Queens Park Bridge

The one lane Queens Park Bridge links Highton and Newtown. The site was originally a punt.

Timeline:

  • 1861: A wooden cattle bridge was built and a toll was charged
  • 1870: The bridge collapsed in a flood
  • 1872: A new wooden bridge opened with a toll which ended in 1877
  • 1909: The bridge was wrecked by the flood, but was rebuilt
  • 1930: The current one lane steel bridge was built
  • 1963: A water main and footpath were added to the site. The height of the deck modified in later years. The bridge is still in use today.
