Goods and services prohibited from sale
Certain items are deemed inappropriate for sale at the Belmont Market, either due to their illegal or unlawful nature or because they conflict with the community nature of the market as deemed by the Belmont Market. The following items/services are prohibited for sale at the Belmont Market:
- cigarettes or any tobacco products, vapes and vaping equipment
- alcohol or associated products
- live animals (pets or livestock)
- pornography
- pirated media
- motor vehicles, marine vessels & watercrafts, aircrafts, any type of motors
- any product considered to be illegal, and/or anything the Belmont Market considers inappropriate and/or against the community nature of the market.
- Firearms, explosives, weapons (including all types of knives, prohibited or controlled weapons, body armour, and dangerous items), as well as any other objects that may be considered weapons
- Busking without approval or permit. Refer to: Performers and entertainers at the Belmont Market
- Any food or beverage items intended to be sold without prior approval from Belmont Market and the City of Greater Geelong, including those intended for resale. Refer to: Food and Beverage Vendors at the Belmont Market
Belmont Market reserves the right to immediately terminate and remove any stallholders from the premise who are found selling or intending to sell prohibited goods or services, regardless of whether they are listed above or, even if the stallholder possesses documentation (E.g. non-approved food and beverage vendors).
Belmont Market may request to photocopy a driver’s license should they suspect a stallholder of selling suspicious items. Any information collected may also be shared with Victoria Police and other relevant authorities as required. Furthermore, individuals attempting to advise or provide information to stallholders without the consent of Belmont Market and the City of Greater Geelong may also have their details forwarded to Victoria Police, or the police may be contacted.
Sale of media/tech items
Any stallholder intending to sell tech items or media, including DVD movies, audio CDs, and photographs, must provide a copy of their driver’s license for photocopying and record-keeping.
This requirement is in place to prevent the sale of pirated media, and any information requested by authorities regarding the sale of pirated media may be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
Individuals who wish to sell media items but refuse to provide their driver’s license will not be assigned a site at Belmont Market.
Sale of electrical items
The sale of second-hand or used electrical items, such as power tools and household appliances, is permitted at Belmont Market. However, stallholders are responsible for ensuring that all items are safe. Unsafe or hazardous items include, but are not limited to:
- items with frayed or damaged electrical cords
- homemade power cords or extension leads
- items that are considered potentially dangerous upon visual inspection.
Belmont Market assumes no liability for the sale of faulty goods and will not assist customers in locating stallholders suspected of selling defective items. Customers must accept that all goods are sold 'as is'.
